“Strong nutrition is one of the best interventions you can do to preserve your health and promote healthy aging.”
After some discussion with clients and other people, I narrowed down how people view food. Food is seen as:
- Whole Fresh Foods (the good) vs Processed Boxed/Fast Foods (the bad & the ugly)
- Macronutrients (carbs, fats, proteins) & Micronutrients (vitamins/minerals)
- Energy/Fuel for the body (survival at it’s finest, right?!)
HOLD UP…..
Food is much more than just nourishment/energy/fuel for people. Heck, micronutrients don’t provide any fuel (ATP) at all – but they play some of the biggest roles in maintaining the body (think performance, mood, production of enzymes and maintaining optimal health.) Micronutrients are so important and that is a huge reason why I always recommend tailored nutritional supplementation – but that is a whole other blog post. You can see – the human body is fascinating and incredibly complex.
FOOD IS INFORMATION!
In fact, very important information for our bodies. So why should this matter to you? This is the part that most of us don’t even blink an eye at.
What you eat has a huge impact on
- how you age
- the expression of disease
- how your cells function
- how you feel
The food you eat talks to your genes – turning expressions “on” and “off.” Everything you put into your mouth gets translated into instructions for your cells. See what I mean about important?! No one wants to prematurely age – we are always trying to slow the clock down.
So let’s put this together in a real-life situation to make some sense.
Let’s say you eat a diet mostly full of:
1. Refined carbohydrates (pasta, bread, cookies, crackers, chips, cereals), fast food mostly foods from a box or a can, or foods high in processed oils.
OR
2. Whole Foods: Fresh fruits/vegetable, grass-fed/pasture-raised meats, wild fish, healthy fats (coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil, nuts/seeds)
Here’s what happens – If you are consistently feeding your cells information from #1, you are sending your body messages of disease (boooo). These types of foods have virtually no nutrients. It’s what we call “empty calories.” These types of messages are linked to cancer, autoimmune conditions, digestive disorders, mitochondrial fatigue, heart disease, diabetes and more.
The messages you are giving your cells from #2 are health-promoting and protecting (yeeaaahhhh!).
Big difference – right?
The information we send our cells is important but there are other unique factors for each individual that make the health equation a bit more difficult. As a nutrition practitioner, I have to remember that my clients are all individually different and process foods and nutrients uniquely. For this reason, I offer two solid programs that take an approach that you specifically need.
I love the individualized Metabolic Balance® program because it allows me to dig deeper with each client – taking that holistic, whole approach. I get a look at your comprehensive blood test ( metabolic profile, inflammatory markers, mineral levels, and more) combined with your medical history and personal food preferences. If there are current health issues this helps me pinpoint where things may have gone wrong in the first place. From there we replace what is missing in your nutrition through whole foods. No calorie counting, no counting points, no one-size-fits-all approach. This program is tailor-made for YOU so that your body can repair itself.
